Maybe relocating to Louisiana!! Would like some info…Houma ad Belle Chasse?
We maybe moving to LA from HI…. I have NEVER been there and would like some objective insight as to what it is like there. The areas that we are looking into are Houma and Belle Chasse. I have been doing research online but would like info from people who live/been there.
What is the culture like there? Not to sound ignorant (but like I said- I never been there)… but is there any racial tensions or things to be aware of? I’m a mixed Local Girl from Hawaii… Mostly Puerto Rican though.
It seems there is a really big French influence…. how did that happen?? It’s right next to Texas!! I’ve been to TX – but not LA. Where are some good places to look to rent. We have a small dog…. and would like to keep rent under $1000. Is that possible? For a decent place? What about jobs? I do admin/training type work. How’s the market there?
Belle Chase is on the West Bank (of MIss. river)
pretty close to New Orleans.
Houma is a good hour? drive away from the city (N.O.)
Both places are not booming like the old days as Construction and Oil related businesses have dropped off over the years.
you’ll find it easier to commute to most places from Belle Chase.
I believe BC is doing pretty good since the storm, haven’t been to Houma in years.
and La has very little in common with Texass.
they do have some French roots in what some people call cajuns. but you won’t find too many characters like you see in the movies and they never talk like the actors do.
